The Academy Awards are regarded as the most prestigious forms of felicitation programme in the entertainment industry, not only in the United States, but all across the globe! Better known as the Oscars, the awards are given away to those who harbour extraordinary merit in the film and the art industry, and have created considerable impact through their work.
This year marked the 95th year of the Academy Awards, and was celebrated on March 12, 2023 to honour films released in 2022. The event was directed by Glenn Weiss, who, alongside Ricky Kirshner, was also the producer. Jimmy Kimmel served as the host of the event, live from the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles, for the third time, after hosting the 89th and 90th editions of the Oscars in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
The Academy Award, popularly known as the Oscar, is the most prestigious award given annually by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to honour the art of filmmaking. AMPAS is a professional honorary organisation based out of California. It was founded by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio boss Louis B Mayer to enhance the image of the film industry. Later, the Oscar was introduced as an award of “merit for distinctive achievements in filmmaking.” The very first ceremony was organised at the Roosevelt Hotel on May 16, 1929.
The Oscars were first celebrated almost 93 years ago, on May 16, 1929, and are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). They were first radio-broadcasted in 1930, and aired on television, for the very first time, in 1953. The first Oscars were presented at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, in front of about 270 guests, in 1929. The winners were announced to the media three months later.

Oscar statuette, the award given to the winner, weighs 8.5 pounds and is 13.25 inches high.
