The Indian Navy successfully tested a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on Sunday by firing it from its frontline guided missile ship, INS Mormugao. An official said that the weaponry of the Indian Navy at sea was on show.
The officer also praised INS Mormugao for firing her first BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and striking the "bulls eye". It is the most recent guided-missile destroyer that the Indian Navy has employed.
"Aatma Nirbharta" and the Indian Navy's weaponry at sea represent another bright emblem with the ship and her deadly firepower, the official added.
An India-Russia joint company known as BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd is in charge of manufacturing supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, planes, or ground platforms, according to a PTI report.
The news source went on to say that India also sells BrahMos missiles, which travel at a speed of 2.8 Mach, or nearly three times the speed of sound. However, uncertainty exists over the missile's test-firing site.
Notably, in January of last year, India and the Philippines agreed to a $375 million supply agreement for three missile batteries.
The second of the four Visakhapatnam-class destroyers, INS Mormugao, was formally launched on December 18, 2022, in the presence of Rajnath Singh, the Union defence minister, and other dignitaries. It was created by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited and developed by the Indian Navy's own Warship Design Bureau.
The second of the stealth-guided missile destroyers built under Project 15B, INS Mormugao is named after a significant port in Goa. It has very advanced weaponry, including surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles. It also has modern radar for surveillance. It possesses anti-submarine warfare capability, thanks to locally designed torpedo launchers and rocket launchers.
Notably, the ship has the ability to combat nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare. Hence, we can safely state that Mormugao is one of the world's most technologically advanced missile carriers!
A medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be fired from a submarine, ship, aeroplane, or land, the BrahMos (also designated as PJ-10) is unquestionably the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile. It is a partnership between the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya and the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which together make up BrahMos Aerospace. The names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra in India and the Moskva in Russia, were combined to create the term BrahMos.
