May 27th, 2023:This game was removed from the Play Store and App Store after the government of India passed an order.
Mobile gamers of the country were disappointed since the government decided to ban BGMI (BattleGrounds Mobile India). When BGMI was banned in India, it had more than 100 million users (10 crore).
The government was concerned about the app’s data security and mining in China, a source close to the government told Reuters news agency.
After the government lifted the prohibition on it for a three-month trial period, it was recently reported that Battleground Mobile India has restarted operations in India.
Battleground Mobile India is a division of the South Korean game firm Krafton.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the minister of state for electronics and information technology, said in a tweet on Friday that BGMI has been approved for a three-month trial after meeting requirements for server locations and data security. He tweeted, “This is a 3 month trial approval of #BGMI after it has complied with issues of server locations n data security etc. We will keep a close watch on other issues of user harm, addiction etc in the next three months before a final decision is taken.”
Krafton, Inc India CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn also said, “We are highly grateful to the Indian authorities for allowing us to resume operations of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). "We would like to extend our gratitude to our Indian gaming community for their support and patience over the past few months. We are excited to announce that BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will be available for download soon and we cannot wait to welcome you back to our platform.”
The video game was banned in India last year after an NGO called for its prohibition on the grounds that Krafton, a front business for Chinese corporation Tencent, had reintroduced the outlawed PUBG game there. By becoming the first Esports event to be broadcast on network television and drawing 24 million (2.4 crore) concurrent viewers and 200 million (20 crore) total viewers, according to Krafton, BGMI has created history.
