On July 23, Noah Lyles scored an outstanding run to win the London Diamond League. The American speedster ran 200 meters in 19.47 seconds to set a new world record.
The Diamond League is a yearly meeting of the top fourteen international athletes in track and field sports. The London Diamond League is an annual athletic competition hosted in London, England. It was originally known as the London Grand Prix and then as the Anniversary Games. It was first held in 1953 under the title "International Games".
The London Diamond League, which was hosted in the London Stadium, featured a number of achievements by athletes from across the world that broke records. Men competed in the 400-meter, 1500-meter, high jump, shot put, discus throw, and various other competitions. Women competed in the 800-meter, 5000-meter, pole vault, long jump, and other sports.
By beating Usain Bolt's previous mark of 19.76 seconds set on the exact same track in 2008, Lyles also broke the event's record. The American, who is only 26 years old, has a chance to go beyond the Jamaican icon a lot more.
In the same event, Femke Bol achieved the third-fastest performance ever in the 400m hurdles, clocking 51.45 seconds. She finished behind Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's marks of 50.68 and 51.41 seconds.
At the Kingston Grand Prix in May, Noah Lyles beat his personal record of 19.67 seconds, and he seems to be in excellent form to achieve a double victory at the World Athletics Championships next month.
In London, he competed against other great runners like Letsile Tebogo and Zharnel Hughes. He won the race, and his victory made him the athlete with the most wins under 20 seconds in 200m races. He broke Usain Bolt's record, which was tied with Noah before the race.
Refocusing on Lyles, the 26-year-old has already said that he will try a double at the World Athletics Championships later this year.
He will be attempting to become the third athlete in 200m history to win a succession of three gold medals, joining Usain Bolt (four times) and Allyson Felix (three times).
