Jun 29, 2023: Is Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg really happening? What started all of this? Keep reading to know more!
In reaction to rumors of Meta's upcoming Twitter rival, "Threads," Elon Musk recently issued a challenge to Mark Zuckerberg. Popular people frequently engage in this type of online fighting on social media. However, what separates this conversation from others is the likelihood of a physical fight between these two billionaires.
The CEO of Meta, Zuckerberg, accepted Musk's invitation to a "cage match," as evidenced by his Instagram Story’s answer, "Send me location."
It will be interesting to watch if this challenge results in a physical fight or if it was just a metaphor for their rivalry.
What is Meta?
Meta Platforms, Inc., formerly named Facebook, Inc., and TheFacebook, Inc. is an American multinational technology conglomerate1 based in Menlo Park, California. The company owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, among other products and services. Meta is one of the world's most valuable companies. It is often considered one of the Big Five American information technology companies, alongside Alphabet (parent company of Google), Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft.
A conglomerate1 is like a big group of different things all stuck together. Imagine you have a box filled with toys, snacks, and books. Each of these things is different, but when you put them all together in the box, it becomes a conglomerate. Just like that, a conglomerate is a company that owns many different businesses. They might own a toy store, a restaurant, a clothing store, and even a movie theater. The businesses are all different, but they are all part of the same conglomerate. It's like having a big family with lots of brothers and sisters who are all unique but still part of the same family.
Ever since its creation in a Harvard dorm room in 2004, Facebook has had a meteoric rise. It rose to 1 billion users as early as 2012, and continued to grow, reaching the 2 billion mark in the next five years. Nowadays, Facebook is pretty much a household name.
In response to Musk's tweet(I’m up for a cage match if he is lol), a Twitter user cautioned him that Zuckerberg is skilled in the martial art of jiu-jitsu.
Zuckerberg vs Musk combat experience
Mark Zuckerberg, aged 39, participated in his first jiu-jitsu tournament in May of the previous year and achieved success by winning a medal. He competed in the white belt master 2 lightweight division for both gi and no-gi jiu-jitsu. The gi is a thick, white cotton uniform commonly worn in various martial arts.
Zuckerberg has been actively involved in combat sports for a considerable period. In September 2021, he shared a video where he sparred with his training partner, Khai Wu, who is also known as "The Shadow." This training session took place in preparation for Zuckerberg's upcoming appearance on UFC Fight Pass, a subscription-based video streaming service focused on combat sports.
Zuckerberg recently took to Facebook and Instagram to announce his completion of the "Murph" challenge. This challenge is named after Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who sadly lost his life in Afghanistan at the age of 29 in June 2005. It involves completing a specific workout consisting of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another one-mile run.
Elon Musk has some martial arts experience as well. During a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast, Musk revealed that he had trained in judo, kyokushin karate, and taekwondo during his childhood. He also mentioned that he had briefly practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu more recently.
Joe Rogan is a well-known comedian, podcast host, and former mixed martial arts commentator. He is famous for his long-form conversations with diverse guests on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast.
