In one of the most famous tennis competitions around the world, the French Open,Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic rises to victory. He faced Casper Ruud, a powerful opponent, in the championship match on June 11, 2023. Djokovic performed excellently and won the game. He won in three sets: 7-6 (1), 6-3, and 7-5.
This victory was especially important because it raised Djokovic to the position of player with the most Grand Slam victories. Serbian player Djokovic, 36, broke a tie with opponent Rafael Nadal for the most major singles titles in the sport's history, which dates back to the 1800s. In men's and women's singles tennis history, only Margaret Court, with 24 championships, has won more Grand Slams.
This year's French Open was out of the question for Nadal due to an injury that he had faced. However, he has repeatedly shown his calber while playing on France's clay courts and has won the competition 14 times in the past.
Prior to this year, Djokovic won the French Open twice, in 2016 and 2021. He has collected a total of 10 Slam trophies since winning his first one at the 2008 Australian Open, seven at Wimbledon, and three at the U.S. Open.
He is the only player to have taken home at least three victories in every of the four major competitions. The Australian Open, Wimbledon, the French Open, and the U.S. Open are the names of these tournaments.
A calendar-year Grand Slam is something really special that Djokovic is so close to attaining. This means that he would win the four-team championship in just one season. Rod Laver was the last person to do this, back in 1969.
When he won the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon and advanced all the way to the U.S. Open championship final before falling to Daniil Medvedev, Djokovic came dangerously close to accomplishing the achievement in 2021.
Now that Wimbledon has come around, Djokovic will have another opportunity to compete. In England, it starts on July 3rd. It would be a truly remarkable accomplishment if he succeeds.
