May 08, 2022: Elon Musk wants to make Twitter a paid service for commercial and government users.
Billionaire Elon Musk, who recently took over Twitter, has said that the social media giant might now become a paid service for some. Tweeting out about the revelation, Musk said, “Twitter will always be free for casual users, but maybe a slight cost for commercial/government users.”
Musk has been suggesting a series of changes to Twitter ever since he took over the platform in the last week of April. Musk’s end of the deal included 44 billion USD and he has been vocal about enhancing the platform with new features.
Musk also added, “some revenue is better than none!” leading people to believe that he is actually serious about this one. In fact, when he was acquiring funds to buy the social media giant, he had proposed to banks that he intended to possibly charge a fee when a third-party website wants to quote or embed tweets from verified individuals or organisations.
Musk recently also talked about the changes he wants to make, clarifying his free-speech stance, and also proposing that Twitter's DMs should be End-to-End encrypted.
