Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee of India made headlines in Tunis by winning the WTT Contender competition on 25th June 2023. The pair also became the first Indians to win a Contender title this year.

The young team defeated Japanese superstars Miyuu Kihara and Miwa Harimoto in an exciting final to win the prestigious championship. They had a setback in the third set, dropping it 5-11, but they recovered well to win the fourth set 13-11.
Their victory over the two extremely talented Japanese youths, who are both ranked in the top 25 in the world for singles, emphasises their outstanding performance even more.
