January 10, 2022: Are you a Marvel fan? Well, there might be some good news in store for you. Read this article to find out what.
Marvel movies have dominated pop culture over the last decade. The movies produced by Marvel Studios are superhero films based on popular comic book characters from Marvel Comics and the films that follow the overall main storyline are classified under the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ or the MCU.
The MCU began all the way in 2008 with ‘Iron Man’, starring Robert Downey Jr. and the character has gone on to become one of the most popular among fans worldwide.
Over the next decade or so, the MCU provided fans with films that amassed billions of dollars worldwide. Now, the MCU also includes TV shows, literature, and short films. It also produced its first special in 2022, with ‘Werewolf by Night’.
The MCU films are divided into different phases, with the first three phases being collectively known as ‘The Infinity Saga’ and the the following three phases being termed ‘The Multiverse Saga’.
Phase One | Began with ‘Iron Man’ (2008), and ended with the 2012 crossover film ‘Avengers’. |
Phase Two | Began with Iron Man 3 (2013) and concluded with Ant-Man (2015) |
Phase Three | Began with Captain America: Civil War (2016) and concluded with Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) |
Phase Four | Began with Black Widow (2021) and just ended in December 2022 with ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’. |
While the first three phases produced films that were hugely popular and critically acclaimed, Phase 4 was met with a lot of criticism from fans. Some critics believe that the MCU was unable to meet its expectations after trying to expand into different storylines and creating films with rushed and incomplete production. Others think that the Covid-19 pandemic played a huge role in slowing down production.
Whatever the reason is, Phase 4 is now officially over, and Marvel wants fans to move on to the next one starting with ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’. The Marvel Twitter account in India added a Quantumania teaser kicking off the MCU's Phase 5. It tweeted a video of the movie’s two main characters looking at large text mentioning ‘Phase 5’ and ‘2023’. See the video in the tweet linked below.
