10th June 2021: The Global New Light of Myanmar, a State run News Agency, said on 10th June that new corruption cases have been opened against Aung San Suu Kyi and two other former officials from her government.
A press release by the military council on Thursday said Ms Suu Kyi had accepted $600,000 (£425,000) in bribes and seven pieces of gold which, if proved, might face upto 15 years of jail.
The earlier charges include
- Violating the official secrets act- carries a maximum jail term of 14 years
- Violating import-export laws by illegally importing walkie-talkies- carries a maximum jail term of three years
- Violating the telecommunications law by importing walkie-talkies- a maximum jail term of 1 year
- Two charges of violating a natural disaster law- carrying a maximum jail term of three years each
- Inciting public unrest - carries a maximum jail term of three years
