The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has yet again raised concerns as Odesa, a port city in southern Ukraine, was attacked by a Russian drone early on 19th of April Wednesday. Thankfully, no deaths were reported, according to police.
Yuriy Kruk, head of the Odesa district military administration commented that “ "At night, the enemy carried out an attack by UAVs of the Shahed-136 type on the Odesa region"
The Shahed-136 is a small, self-destructing drone produced in Iran that can be configured to autonomously fly to a certain set of GPS coordinates carrying an explosive payload.
Although there were no injuries, civil infrastructures were damaged as a result of Russia's drone strike on Odesa, Ukraine.
Before Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops into Ukraine in February of last year, many Ukrainians and Russians made their annual trip to the Black Sea town of Odesa as it was a beautiful vacation spot.
Russian soldiers have struck Odesa many times since the invasion began. Additionally, it was subjected to a drone assault two weeks ago that did considerable damage. Following that, in January, the United Nations cultural agency UNESCO declared Odesa a World Heritage in Danger site.
Kruk added that “According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. Measures are being taken to contain the fire, units of the State Emergency Service and other structures are working on the spot.”
The Ukrainian Air Force commander General Mykola Oleshchuk reported that 10 out of the total 12 "kamikaze" drones had been shot and destroyed by air defences.
According to the General Staff of Ukraine, throughout the course of the previous day, Russia fired four missiles, 60 airstrikes, and 58 rocket assaults, and caused injury to people in all of them.
Numerous lives have been lost as a result of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which broke out on February 24 and is still escalating between the two countries.
