As part of a significant drive to compete with Netflix and Amazon, the broadcasting division of Reliance has signed a contract with Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. for its streaming service, JioCinema.
According to a newly announced arrangement between Warner Bros. Discovery and Reliance's Viacom18, HBO, Max Original, and Warner Bros shows, series and movies will now be streamed exclusively on JioCinema India.
Based on a report from PTI, the partnership would let the recently launched series to make its JioCinema debut on the same day as in the US.
The Indian viewer population will be pleased with this agreement since it makes popular shows like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and the new Harry Potter series available on Reliance JioCinema.
Although the sources withheld financial details of the arrangement, the statement identified the content partnership as a "new multi-year agreement" that will begin the following month.
This announcement came after the fact that last month, Disney+ Hotstar stated that, as of March 31, all HBO content would be removed from the streaming platform. Disney+ Hotstar announced the announcement in a tweet, writing,"Starting 31st March, HBO content will be unavailable on Disney+ Hotstar. You can continue enjoying Disney+ Hotstar’s vast library of content spanning over 100,000 hours of TV Shows and Movies in 10 languages and coverage of major global sporting events."
According to Warner Bros. President for India, Southeast Asia, and Korea Clement Schwebig, the partnership is a part of the studio's commitment to the South Asian market as it works to expand the scope of its regional operations. He said, "Warner Bros Discovery's brands are incredibly popular across India, and we are pleased to partner with Viacom18 to bring our premium HBO, Max Original and Warner Bros content to local fans."
He further added that "This new agreement demonstrates our commitment to South Asia as we seek to entertain audiences across more platforms, and further strengthens the scale of our regional business as a whole,"
