As the colourful splinters of vibrance filled up the skies of Vadodara, tourists looked up in amazement and expressed their happiness and contentment of being back in India for the International Kite Festival again.
On Friday, i.e., on January 13, 2023, tourists flocked to Gujarat from Australia, Canada, France, Russia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Colombia, Denmark, New Zealand, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Belgium, Bahrain, Iraq and Malaysia, to participate in the Kite Flying event taking place in India.
68 countries ushered in with a participative spirit. 125 flyers flew their kites high up in the year, after coming together for an event based on the G20 theme: One Earth, One Family, One Future. 65 kite flyers came from 14 different Indian states and 660 from different parts of the state to participate in the event.
The International Kite Festival ended on January 14. The vibrant kites filled up the skies and amazed not just the adults, but also children.

The kites were of several shapes and colours, including a Mario-shaped kite, from the iconic children's video game. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the kite flying festival is organised in Gujarat every year and is locally known as Uttarayan.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was present at the inauguration ceremony of the International Kite Festival 2023. “The festival is an opportunity to touch the sky and reach new heights. Kites are a symbol of progress, prosperity and flight,” he said.
