The Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour is a prestigious professional golf tournament exclusively for women, showcasing the talent and skill of female golfers on a competitive platform. With its focus on promoting women's golf and empowering athletes, the tour serves as a catalyst for growth and recognition in the world of women's golf.
Amateur golfer Vidhatri Urs, hailing from Mysore, emerged victorious in the ninth leg of the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour held at the Prestige Golfshire on 22nd June. Throughout the tournament, Vidhatri displayed exceptional skill and consistency.
The tournament's top score for Vidhatri was an amazing 16-under 200. This means that Vidhatri completed the tournament with a score of 200, which is 16 strokes less than the total par for the tournament. If the total par for the tournament was 216, Vidhatri's score of 200 would be considered excellent, as they finished 16 strokes under par.
On the other hand, Jasmine Shekar and Saanvi Somu, who are described as Vidhatri's nearest rivals, finished with scores of three-under 213.
On the final day, Vidhatri started with a comfortable nine-shot lead over her competitors. With her outstanding performance, there was no doubt about her eventual win. She concluded the tournament by shooting a remarkable four-under 68 in the final round, making it her third consecutive round in the 60s.
This score of 16-under tied for the second-best score achieved on the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour. The other players who achieved this feat were Vani Kapoor at Eagleton in 2016 and Neha Tripathi at Classic Golf and Country Resort in 2018. The record for the best score under par on the tour is held by Kiran Matharu, who won with a score of 17-under at the Classic in 2015.
How is the game of Golf played?
Golf is an outdoor game played on a grassy course. The objective is to strike a small ball through 18 holes with minimal strokes with one type of Club at a time.
1. Golf Course:
A golf course is like a big playground with lots of different areas. Each area is called a hole, and there are usually 18 holes on a standard golf course.
2. Golf Equipment:
In golf, you use different clubs to hit the ball. The clubs have different shapes and sizes, and they help you hit the ball different distances. Some clubs are good for hitting the ball far, while others are better for shorter shots.
3. How to Play:
To start playing, you stand at the tee box (a marked area) and try to hit the ball as far as you can down the fairway (the main path to the hole). Then, you keep hitting the ball, trying to get it closer and closer to the hole.
4. Getting the Ball into the Hole:
The hole is like a little cup in the ground. Your ultimate goal is to hit the ball into the hole using as few shots as possible. When the ball goes into the hole, you've completed that hole!
5. Scoring System:
Golf uses a system called "stroke play" to keep score. In stroke play, each time you hit the ball is counted as one stroke.
The fewer strokes you take to get the ball into the hole, the better your score.
6. Par:
On each hole, there is a "par" number. Par is the number of strokes a skilled golfer is expected to take to get the ball into the hole. For example, if a hole is a "par 3," it means it should take a good golfer three shots to get the ball in the hole.
7. Scoring on Each Hole:
- If you get the ball in the hole in fewer strokes than the par number, you scored under par, and that's great!
- If you get the ball in the hole in the same number of strokes as the par number, you scored par, and that's good too!
- If you get the ball in the hole in more strokes than the par number, you scored over par, and you'll want to try to improve on the next hole.
8. Adding Up the Scores:
After playing all 18 holes, you add up the number of strokes it took you on each hole to get your total score. The golfer with the lowest total score is the winner.
How does the Scoring System work:
In golf, each hole on the course has a designated par, which represents the expected number of strokes a skilled golfer should take to complete it.
The most common pars for holes are 3, 4, and 5.
A golfer's score for a hole is determined by the number of strokes they take to get the ball into the hole.
- If a golfer completes a hole in one stroke less than the par, it's called a "birdie"
- If they complete it in two strokes less than par, it's an "eagle"
- If they take one stroke more than par, it's a "bogey"
- Two strokes more than par is a "double bogey," and so on.
The goal is to finish the entire course with the lowest total number of strokes. At the end of a round of golf, the player with the fewest strokes is the winner.
Here's some Trivia which will give you additional information on the game:
